There’s something truly magical about May – the air feels fresher, the days are longer, and if you’re lucky enough to spot them, delicate clouds of elderflowers begin to bloom along hedgerows.
This year, we embraced the season by gathering a basket of these beautifully fragrant blossoms and turning them into our very own elderflower cordial – a simple, old-fashioned recipe that brings the taste of spring into every sip. It’s the perfect activity for kids of all ages and keeps Maison Garcin stocks up for future guests to enjoy.
Our Recipe
Ingredients:
• 20 elderflower heads (gently shaken to remove insects)
• 1.5L water
• 1kg sugar
• 2 lemons, sliced
• 50g citric acid (optional, helps preserve)
Steps:
1. In a large bowl, pour boiling water over the sugar and stir until dissolved.
2. Add the elderflowers, lemon slices, and citric acid.
3. Cover and leave to infuse for 24–48 hours.
4. Strain through a muslin cloth or clean tea towel.
5. Pour into sterilised bottles and store in the fridge.
